Abstract:
This paper describes characteristics and problems of the capacity planning process in
semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities. Twenty-two factors that contribute to capacity
loss are identified and discussed. Information on these loss factors was obtained through
three sources: 1) a literature review; 2) an extensive survey, interview, and workshop
process; and 3) a variety of queueing and simulation models.
